Recording the Repaird of the Gan Ancestral Temple Inscription

Collection situation

      Zheng Chenggong was defeated in Nanjing with the army suffering heavy casualties. A large number of outstanding generals were killed in the breakout. " Recording the Repaird of the Gan Ancestral Temple Inscription" records the life of Zheng’s general Ganhui, who died in the battle of Nanjing.
      This monument was collected in 1983 from XiangxiafangVillage, Longhai Dongyuan, Zhangzhou. It is made of granite, 61.5 cm high, 102.5 cm wide and 10 cm thick. The inscription describes that the Gan clan rebuilt the ancestral temple in the 21st year of the reign of Emperor Daoguang of the Qing dynasty (1841)
      The monument to commemorate their ancestor Ganhui's bravery who followed Zheng Chenggong to resist the Qing dynasty.
      Gan Hui, born in Longhai Dongyuan, Fujian province, joined Zheng Chenggong's army as a deputy general in his youth. He was offered meritorious serive for his bravery at war. After being promoted to commander-in-chief of the Zheng army, he was appointed "Chongmingbo" by Emperor Yongli of the Southern Ming dynasty.
      In 1659 (13thyears of the reign of Emperor Yongli in the Southern Ming dynasty), Ganhui led his army to break through the Nanjing battle, but was taken as prisoner and died due to being outnumbered.
      After the failure of Northern Expedition , Zheng Chenggong deeply regretted that he did not take Gan Hui's advice to march quickly,. He built a loyal minister temple in Xiamen to commemorate the victims generals led by Gan Hui.
