Pale-green-ground Vat Molded with Bats and Clouds Qianlong Reign,Qing Dynasty

Collection situation

Height 55.5cm  Diameter of rim: 46cm  Diameter of foot 37cm
This jar was really plump. It had a flat mouth, narrow neck and broad shoulder. Its stomach was slightly bigger than its bottom. It had short feet ring. The bottom of the jar wasn’t glazed and it narrowed inside. The jar was hard and heavy with light green glaze around the body and decorated with single white glaze at the same time. It was painted lucky clouds, bats and peaches on the jar which were symbols of good luck and longevity.
The structure of the jar was simple but solid. The glaze was shinning, rich, neat and refined. The patterns of the decorations were well arranged. The overlapped paintings were so stereo and vivid. It’s common to find such patterns in the ceramics of Qian Long Reign which were more complicated. But the themes were about good luck and all of the paintings had special meanings such as “good luck, longevity, more children, promotion, eight gods” and so on. The contents of the paintings were quite common which were full of superstition.
The jar had a big volume as well as capacity so it can be used in many ways such as fish jar or a penholder in the study room. It’s rare to find such a big, proper glazed, refined jar.
