A kit of Stone Adzes Shang and Zhou Dynasties

Collection situation

It’s a kit of stone adzes from the small one to the bigger.  The adzes were made of mudstone. They were soft, flat and some of them looked like a cuboid. Some of them looked like the arches with obvious edges. They were polished and beautiful. Most of them had concave blades. 4 adzes’ concave blades were easy to be recognized. Some of the adzes had flat blades. Some of the adze’s body or blade cracked and one of the adze was broken.
These are the unique relics of the bronze culture of Shang and Zhou Dynasties---Fubin Culture in east Guang Dong Province and South Fujian Province.
Fubin Culture usually used the following kinds of instruments. Stone: dagger-axe, spear, Concave blade adze and so on; Pottery: Zun, Caldron, Pot, cup and so on; Bronze: dagger-axe, spear and so on.  The dozen of adzes was excavated in 1985 at Shiku Mountain, Hongfu Village, Shuitou country, Nan ‘an Town, Fujian Province. It’s rare to find out a kit of adzes. The usage of the adzes is not sure. It could be used as tools in daily life or it could be the ritual vessels. It’s still a mystery that we have to collect more evidence to find out the answer. According to the facts we had proved in archeology before, we are sure that they are the funeral objects in the tombs of Fubin Culture. They are classified to be Grade One cultural relics of the state.
