The Zheng Chenggong’s Memorial Hall was found in 1962, for memorizing the hero Zheng Chenggong who made great achievement to recapture Tai Wan Province 300 years ago. The memorial hall is located in north Ri Guangyan in Gulang Island. Ri Guangyan is a famous place of interest. The main building stands for the typical construction in Gulang Island. Nearby the mountain and the sea, the building is so marvelous. Longtou Zhai (the ancient camping site of Zheng Chenggong’s army) and the Site of Shui Caotai( the ancient camping site of Zheng Chenggong’s navy) are in the east of the building. The building has various functions: exhibition, historical relics and research center of the historical files about Zheng Chenggong. It is an important place to carry out patriotism education. Now the total area of the exhibition is about 1500 square meter. It includes four parts: “the families of the Zheng, the war against Qing Dynasty and the marine trade, recapturing Tai Wan Province, exploiting Tai Wan Province” besides the lobby. Zheng Chenggong’s stories about fighting against Qing Dynasty and driving out the invaders from Dutch are appeared up by all kinds of relics, documents, photos, graphs, paintings, sculptures and settings vividly.

    Zheng Chenggong’s original name is Sen, with courtesy name of “Ming Yan” and he also titled “Da Mu”. His hometown is Shijin Town, Nan An city, Fujian Province. He was born in Qian Libin, Ping Hu, Japan in 1624 and he came back to China when he was seven. He enrolled in the Imperial College in Nan Jing and studied Confucianism. After the fall of Ming Dynasty, Zheng Chonggong and his father Zheng Zhilong supported the other king of Ming Dynasty (Long Wu King) in Fu Zhou. Zheng Chenggong and his father fought against Qing Dynasty so they were praised by the Long Wu king. The king awarded Zheng Sen to get the same family name with the emperor “Zhu” and changed his given name to be “Chenggong”. That’s the history of his name. People call him “the lord with the royal family name”. Zheng Chenggong was awarded to be Yan Ping King by Yong Li emperor.
    The army of Qing Dynasty attacked into Fujian Province in 1645. Zheng Chenggong got rid of his father. He commanded his army to fight against Qing Dynasty and camped in Jin Men and Xia Men. He leaded his army and local people to fight against Qing Dynasty during 15 years. He used to attack Nan Jing city but his army was too proud to success. He developed marine trade with foreign countries in Xia Men so that he had the strength to fight against the western colonists. April, in 1661, Zheng Chenggong lead his army (about 25000 soldiers) to attack the colonist from Dutch. Zheng Chenggong’s army started from Keluo Wan, Jinmen. After series of battles, Zheng Chenggong’s army won to the colonists from Dutch had to sign the contract to surrender. Zheng Chenggong recaptured Tai Wan Province of China. Zheng Chenggong died when he was only 39 years old on 23th, June, in 1662 in Tai Wan. During 300 years, Zheng Chenggong’s loyalty of fighting against Qing Dynasty, his patriotism of fighting against the colonists and his spirit of adventure of developing Tai Wan Province were a good example for all descendants of Chinese. His life is really brilliant and brave.
    The Zheng Chenggong’s Memorial Hall exhibits the life stories of Zheng Chenggong and takes the collections of related relics and historical documents seriously at the same time. Now it has rich research documents about Zheng Chenggong and the Research Center of Zheng Chenggong was set here too.
    The Zheng Chenggong’s Memorial Hall was listed into the first batch of Patriotism Education Basement in November, 1995. It was titled as the first batch of “the model Patriotism Education Basement” by the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the CPC in June, 1997. It was titled “National Defense Education Basement” in November, 2007 by Fujian Province. It was awarded the title “the model of the National Defense Education Basement” in November, 2009.

Go along the Longtou Road to Yongchun Road and you’ll be in the gate of Ri Guangyan scenic spot. Finally you can arrive to the Zheng Chenggong Memorial.
