The Former Site for Prison Break locates at 453th, Gongyuannan Road, Siming district, Xiamen and it is named “the former site of prison break on 25 ^th in May”. It used to be a prison in Qing Dynasty which was found in 1765. After the foundation of the Republic of China, the prison was changed to be Siming Town’s Prison. With the help of the CCP in Fujian Province, some soldiers broke the prison on 25the, May in 1930. They rescued more than 40 fellows and killed the enemies without any loss. They won the total success and the event was really significant in the history.
    The site was renamed to be “the Site for Prison Break of Xiamen” in 1982 and managed by the Cultural Affairs Bureau. Xiamen Government announced it to be the historical site under the protection of Xiamen Government in March. The government of Fujian Province announced it to be the historical site under the protection of Fujian Government in 1985. Five rooms of the prison were rebuilt to be the exhibition rooms which became the Patriotism Education Basement of Siming District. Xiamen Museum took charge of the site in 2004. the Cultural Affairs Bureau repaired the site and the Publicity Department of the CPC Handan Municipal Committee named the site to be the Patriotism Education Basement of Xiamen. professional staff of Xiamen Museum arranged the exhibition in the site so it can be visited by the public. The site was announced to be one of the most important historical site under the protection of the nation by the State Council in June, 2006.
    The total area of the site is about 800 square meters. There are 3 building of cells. There are 5 cells in the front building; 5 cells in the middle building and 10 cells in the buildings behind. It has the exhibition of the fight for prison break which is divided into three sections: the room of the exhibition on prison break; copied implements of torture and the surroundings of the prison. There are many pictures, models in the exhibition room to introduce the fight of the prison break which can help the visitor to understand the revolutionary vividly at that time.
    It was opened to the public on 25th, May in 2006. So many visitors came here to adore the ancestors. Most of them are the teams from schools, communities or National companies. There are about 3000 visitors now in total and most of them are students and communists. The introduction in the site is free and visitors can take some related historical documents and videos free. The book of Hu Guanzhong “ the Story of the Prison Break of Xiamen” is very popular. Visitors will influenced greatly after they know the story here especially the old.
    The site was not in the downtown and it’s not well-known. But many visitors came to visit the site after the report of Fujian TV Station, Xiamen TV Station ,Xiamen Daily, Haixia Daily. More and more visitors visit the site and some of them offered many good suggestions. So the site is improving to be a better Patriotism Education Basement of Xiamen.
