Rattan Helmet

Collection situation

      National first grade cultural relic-18 centimeters high, 20 centimeters in diameter and weighing 0.4 kilograms, made in the early Qing dynasty. The Rattan Helmet is made with thick rattan, Structure is compact and tough and primitive-looking helmet can only be found in Fujian province. According to historical records, in the mid-Ming dynasty, soldiers in Fujian and Guangxi used rattan shield and helmet as armor. After processed, rattans become tough, elastic and not easy to break. It can resist the blows and cuts of metal weapons such as knives, spears and arrows, reducing the damage to the head and neck, and is lighter and more comfortable than the iron helmets.
