The “Zhaotao General” Seal

      Emperor Longwu of the Nanming Dynasty conferred Zheng Chenggong is Zhaotao General. according to the Title given Official seal “Zhaotao General 's seal”. This is the official seal used by three generations of the Zheng family.
      In August of the second year of the Shunzhi of the Qing dynasty (the first year of the reign of Longwu of the Southern Ming dynasty, 1645), Zheng Zhilong and Zheng Sen (Zheng Chenggong) paid a visit to Emperor Longwu. because of Zhengsen's talent, Emperor Longwu bestowed his country's surname of Zhu on him and renamed him "Cenggong" ,granted “ZhongXiaoBo”of title of nobility and the imperial sword to him. Later on, Zheng followed the emperor in his expedition and was ordered to supervise the border areas of Fujian, Zhejiang and Jiangxi. In order to facilitate the supervision of Zheng, the emperor appointed him as Zhaotao General with the Zhaotao General seal, carrying the duty to guard the Xianxia Pass.
      Emperor Longwu’s government was destroyed within one year, Zheng Zhilong (Zheng Chenggong’s father) chose to surrender to Qing forces. Zheng Chenggong’s hometown Anhai was attacked by Qing army and his mother killed herself after being humiliated. Bearing the will to revenge his country and family, in November of the third year of the reign of Emperor Shunzhi (the second year of the reign of Emperor Longwu, 1646), he's Uprising in Lieyu Island and called on his father's former army and Uprising person to fight against the Qing dynasty. In the name of "Chenggong the Incompetent Subject with an Imperial Surname", hanging "Zhaotao General Seal", He began a protracted struggle against the Qing Dynasty.
      According to historical records, the Seal was in an important position in the three generations of the Zheng family. It is the official seal to march to war, issue decrees, negotiate with foreign countries and management of Taiwan. In August of the 21st year of the reign of Emperor Kangxi (1683), Zheng Chenggong's grandson Zheng Keshuang led civil and military officials of the collapsed Ming dynasty in Taiwan to cut their hair, and handed in the seal and relevant documents to the Qing government, marking the official surrender of Zheng family.
