      This map of Japan's Coastal Situation was drawn by Zheng Zhilong when he was in charge of the defense affairs of Fujian during the reign of Emperor Hongguang in the Southern Ming dynasty. On the back of the map was inscribed the defense strategy against pirates. On the front was inscribed "identified by Nananbo Zheng Zhilong Feihong".The original map was drawn on a piece of silk cloth 29.8 cm high and 298.4 cm wide. It is now housed at the National Museum of China. The exhibit is a reproduction drawn on paper in 1995. According to the survey of scholars, this map consists of seven pictures. Content can be divided into three parts. Its geographical range extends from northern Japan to the west coast of India. At the back of the map, Zheng Zhilong wrote a strategy of defending against Japanese pirates. According to the "Nananbo" seal and that Zheng Zhilong claiming himself to be Nananbo in the inscription, the time of this scroll may be between August of the seventeenth year of the reign of Emperor Chongzhen (1644) and the June of the first year of Emperor Longwu (1645). The scroll was presented to the Hongguang court of the Southern Ming dynasty, It not only demonstrated Zheng’s loyalty to the Hongguang court, but also showed his understanding of the coastal situation of Japan and China and his ability to control the maritime defense.
