Zheng Chenggong is not only a great national heroes in the history of China, but also an influential figure in the Far East in the 17th century. Born in 1624 in Japan to “Shijing Zhengshi”, a merchant family in late Ming dynasty, Zheng moved to China until seven. When he was 15 years old, he became a Xiucai (a successful candidate) in the imperial examination and studied Confucianism at Nanjing Guo Zi Jian (National Institutions of Education) in Nanjing at 21.
After the fall of Ming dynasty, he followed his farther to support Longwu Emperor in Southern Ming dynasty.The ruler bestowed upon him the royal surname of Zhu and the formal name of Chenggong
That time as Qing army invaded Fujian in 1645, Zheng Chenggong broke with his father. The uprising division was at sea, ZhengChenggong let the army and civilians along the southeast coast to persist in the 15-year anti-Qing struggle. at the same time, he also took Xiamen as an important trading port and actively developed marine trade, daring to compete with the Western Colonial forces, demonstrating a firm spirit and outstanding talent.
