Collection situation
This seven-character-quatra was written by Zheng Chenggong in 1659 when Zheng had successfully captured Guazhou and Zhenjiang which were important towns along the Yangtze River and his hundreds of thousands of troops arrived in Jiaoshan marching toward Nanjing and arrived in. Zheng ordered the army in white mourning emperors Chongzhen and Longwu. To encourage his troops, Zheng told them a story about a general of the former Qin dynasty who said in fighting against the troop of the Eastern Jin dynasty, “Tou Bian Duan Liu (Illustrate: if the soldiers throw their whips into the river, it would be enough to stem the current).” According to the poem "Bu Xin Zhong Yuan Bu Xing Zhu(Illustrate: Do not overthrow the Qing Dynasty and do not change the surname back to "Zhu")", Zheng Chenggong vowed to fight against the Qing dynasty and restore the Ming, expressing his loyalty to the Ming dynasty and his confidence in serving the country. This sonorous poem, describing the northern expedition, expresses Zheng’s determination of recovery of Ming’s reign, and fully demonstrates his profound literary talent and lofty integrity.
