Recapture of Taiwan

Collection situation

Four-line poem with seven characters was written by Zheng Chenggong in early 1662 when the Dutch colonists were forced to surrender under Zheng’s strong attack which lasted for more than eight months. Due to the long and arduous battle, as well as the threat of food shortage and disease, Zheng's army was constantly downsizing. So Zheng wrote “Under tremendous pressure, all the people were united to defeat the invasion of the Netherlands and recover Taiwan.” to express the difficulty in recovering Taiwan. The latter two sentences describe the historical event that at the beginning of the Han dynasty, three thousand sea soldiers were unwilling to surrender to the Han dynasty and committed suicide following Tian Heng to demonstrate their determination. Zheng referred the story to express his gratitude to his soldiers who had unwaveringly followed him despite the threats of disease and hunger.
