Area I The Maritime Family

Collection situation

The 17thcentury was the age of navigation in world history and also the transition period of Ming and Qing dynasties in Chinese history. At this time, western colonial forces began to invade the far East. Objectively speaking, it had stimulated the development of maritime commercial capital in southeast China with the most typical representative being “Shijing Zhengshi” headed by Zheng Zhilong which can be best represented by Zheng Zhilong, Zheng Chenggong, Zheng Jing and Zheng Keshuang. After Zheng zhilong accepted the governorship of the Ming government, the Zheng family became an official, merchant and landlord family. Zheng Chenggong, his son, grew up with high ambitions. He insisted on fighting Qing forces, developing east-west trade, expelling Dutch colonists and developing Taiwan, which proved that he was not only an outstanding representative of his family, but also a hero of the Chinese nation. His sons Zheng Jing and grandson Zheng Keshuang also made an important contribution to Taiwan's development.
