White Jade Flat Vase with Ears and Cover, Qing Dynasty

This flat bottle is carved from Xinjiang Hetian jade.
There are two tubular ears attached on the neck. Cloud and thunder pattern which is common in bronze wares is used as the base pattern on the tubular ears, and the tubular ears are carved with bas-relief deformed Kui dragon pattern. Each of the two sides of the neck is inscribed with a poem in official scripts, which are ancient poems written by the Emperor Qianlong. The two sides of the belly are carved with two low relief theme landscape and figure pattern, carved and painted with two scenes of the Ten Scenes of West Lake respectively.
The composition and the object of expression of this jade bottle are both in line with the main idea of Chinese painting, which is carved on the basis of the drawing, and has distinct characteristics of the times and a very high artistic level.
