Bluish White Jade Bat-shaped Ornament, Qing Dynasty

Collection situation

    Two bats, mother and son, are carved. The female bat having a baby bat on her right symbolizes “good luck plus good luck” (In Chinese, “bat” and “good luck” have the same pronunciation). The female bat has the horn of kylin, the tail of phoenix, the claws of eagle, and fret pattern carved on her body, etc. This green jade has a peculiar  shape, a medium size and an auspicious implication, which makes it an elegant stationary for amusement of the literati.
