Celadon Ash Urn
Collection situation
This Celadon Ash Urn in the Song Dynasty is a kind of utensil for “bones funeral”. When unearthed, there has been a small ash jar inside it, indicating that the secondary funeral custom had been popular in Southern Fujian in Song and Yuan dynasties. It is regular, well-made and green glazed except the bottom. An arched hip roof timber construction image is engraved in the belly, representing the form of Southern Fujian architecture. Song architecture is rarely preserved now, so this image is of great value for studying the history of ancient architecture and Southern Fujian architectural form.
